Okay, I'm so about to show my gendergeek tendencies here.
@cultural-construction-of-gender: When I saw torachan's post about wanting trans!holmes, I was immediately drawn to the idea. However, I was initially really nervous about writing something, because I couldn't conceptualize a way to have the story feel in character but still engage with gender in a non-Victorian way. Then I reread the post, and I can't remember if it was the post itself or the comments, but someone mentioned Holmes' costumes and acting abilities, and my brain went theatricality-> performing-> OMG GENDER PERFORMATIVITY (and my college loans rejoiced). Anyway, I'm really pleased that you picked up on that, but still (it sounds like) felt that it was in a plausible Holmesian voice. Thank you so much for the lovely feedback, it really made my evening!
